STORY
Philip McAdams, better known by his stage name Philmac, is a rapper & producer from Alabama.
Born in Gadsden, AL on March, 21 1976, he moved to Birmingham, AL at the age of 7, where he was raised in the poor and crime ridden neighborhood of Ensley. Trying to find better opportunities and to avoid the repercussions of the crime life of many of his friends, he later moved to Atlanta, GA at the age of 19. Since 2011, he resides in Sacramento, CA.
As rapping was a hobby when he was a young adolescent, he took the thing more seriously in 1991 and started to learn about producing, mixing & engeneering.
Philmac released his first album, "P-Funk", in 1998 under Phunky Entertainment. This album is considered as an underground classic. It's hard to find nowadays & quite expensive. Philmac entirely produced the songs using live instruments (keyboards, drums, funky guitar licks...). The result is some hypnotic southern funk that fits very well Philmac's fast flow... Though, despite the high quality of the album, it wasn't a commercial success due to a lack of promotion...
After working on several projects that didn't see the light ("The Mac", that was due to be released in 1999, and "The Prince" that was supposed to drop in 2008), Philmac's sophomore album, called "War In Heaven", is eventually scheduled to be released in 2021, 23 years after "P-Funk", so keep your ears open if you dig his style or if you like that more-than-100% independent rap thang...
